Why is IIS now called Internet Information Services?
The major attraction of IIS5 is that it is now an integral part of Windows 2000 (shipped as part of the Windows 2000 Server Family), and now takes on the new moniker Internet Information Services. 'Services' is the new buzz word under Windows 2000, and you'll see a lot of names have changed this way. The aim is to stress the point that the OS and products such as IIS now work in a more integrated fashion, as described by Windows DNA 2000 (https://www.microsoft.com/dna). The net result is better stability, integration, performance and so on.
