Book of the Month:
COM+ Programming

COM+ Programming:
With it being so fashionable to write about the beta .NET framework - books that will be out of date soon after they are published - it is nice to see a book about an established product, and one that has a lengthy future. I am talking about COM+ of course, the .NET framework relies on COM+ for its component services and will do in the future. So it makes sense to learn about COM+ because you can use it now with Windows 2000 and you will use it in the future when .NET is released. More Details...

Welcome to the weekly newsletter for
developers and programmers, and particularly to all the new
subscribers - a fantastic number this week.

This week there is a foreshortened newsletter due to the team
being under huge pressure to get the site functioning properly
and looking good for the ever-increasing number of visitors.
Next week we will announce all the new features that have
been added but which are currently under severe beta testing.

From next week onwards the newsletter will be going out every
Monday, rather than Friday.

We welcome all of your suggestions and many of you will have
noticed the recent changes as a result of those suggestions.
Keep them coming in and we'll do our best to include them in
the site. Suggestions to [email protected]

Please help to support this site. We are not a large
international corporation but rather a small group of
developers doing our best to achieve the aims set for, and to provide a high quality resource for
professional developers.

If you wish to sponsor the newsletter, or one of the
channels on the site please contact [email protected]

Thank you to Vivid Creations for sponsoring the newsletter
last month.

We are considering accepting adverts in the newsletter too.
Let us know if you are interested, or if you feel strongly
about that proposal. [email protected]

The catalogue is now up and running, and the new listings
should be featured next week. Take a look at the
possibilities for products, jobs and training courses at

There are new authors featured in the Author Central page so
read about our contributors at

New articles include the unbelievably popular second article
from Dr Richard Grimes about WTL Architecture.

Brad Wilson writes about Threads and Apartments also in the
COM channel

New articles are due to go up shortly about 'COM on Linux',
ASP advanced techniques on websites, and XML, but we welcome
more. We know that many people have downloaded the article
template so we are looking forward to your contributions!
Download the template and read the guidelines here

We would particularly like to see VB and ASP articles.

The International communities are beginning to gain
momentum and we would like to welcome Peter Henden as the
moderator of the Scandinavian community. More about that and
the other international communities next week.

The discussion groups will all shortly be moved to the
all-new IDR forums - more about that next week too.

Although we have authors working on some of the articles, we
are looking for experienced COM+ developers to assist with
our COM+ Development Series. The rewards for writing these
articles will be substantial fame and glory as we know there
are many, many developers awaiting this series.

The whole series is being promoted heftily on the Internet
this month and we would welcome assistance on producing
all the articles as fast as possible. Authors already busy
writing include Dr Richard Grimes, Tom Armstrong and others
of similar ilk.

If you feel capable of covering one of the articles outlined
at please
contact [email protected]

Last call - Advertising for All.

Next Monday (7th Feb) is the very last chance to get your
creative or advert in for the free advertising offer for
February 2000.

We know better than most how hard it can be to get your
advertising in front of the most appropriate audience,
especially if you have a limited budget. To help others
out, gives away a percentage of its
advertising inventory each month.

Although this seems a somewhat bizarre idea, it fits in with
our Open Publishing model. Each month we will accept one
advert per company or website to be featured on the site.
All adverts must be directly related to developers needs and
interests please.

More details are available at
And that's all for this week - lots more news on Mondays
from now on.

Have a great weekend!
