Book of the Month:
COM+ Programming

COM+ Programming:
With it being so fashionable to write about the beta .NET framework - books that will be out of date soon after they are published - it is nice to see a book about an established product, and one that has a lengthy future. I am talking about COM+ of course, the .NET framework relies on COM+ for its component services and will do in the future. So it makes sense to learn about COM+ because you can use it now with Windows 2000 and you will use it in the future when .NET is released. More Details...

Welcome to the weekly newsletter for
developers and programmers.

The site is really beginning to move now and we have added
live stats so the number of concurrent users can be seen at
the top of every page.

The COM+ Competition has been launched with $1000 in
prizes. Don't forget to tell colleagues who are involved in
COM+ development about this competition.

Corporate sponsorship to get your company name seen as
the main sponsor of IDR competitions is available.
We shall shortly be making an announcement about an
exciting opportunity for corporate sponsors (and developers,
of course!).

The forums were not functioning correctly on Monday this week
so we apologise to those who posted whose post did not appear.
They are fully functional now so please post your questions
and comments.

We are continually looking out for new authors who wish to

This week sees the launch of the COM+ COMpetition - more
details at We already have
some entries so if you have experience of COM+ and fancy a pop
at $1000 dollars - read the article outlines and get your
entry in. Closing date is March 27th.

There are new articles, the forums are buzzing,
particularly the Ask the Gurus forum, and up to date news
so take a look and see whether you could help out
another developer, or write an article on XML, ASP,
COM, VB, Java etc.

The Livestats make for interesting watching at the top of
every page.

The author chats will be starting shortly with a chat
with Dr Richard Grimes (date and time to be announced
very soon), and we would like to know who you would like to
talk to, and the subjects that you want to discuss in future
chats. There is a forum thread specifically for your
suggestions at

Would you like to discuss XML schemas, or join in a COM+
discussion, or a general discussion on the future of
certain technologies? Let us know.

Rich Anderson would welcome thoughts on the forums, and
any other features which you would like to see added. We
can offer the forum software to other sites wishing to
feature forums. If you are interested, please contact
[email protected]

What would you like to see on the site? Please take two
minutes to join in this week's newsletter poll.

We hope that there are some developers out there who could
help answer some of the questions being asked on Ask the
Gurus. Our in-house gurus are doing too many conferences,
talks, writing books, and developing to be able to answer
every question at the moment, and would welcome some help.

A new forum has been set up on the Ask The Guru page
and there are plenty of people in this community asking for help
so please dive in and offer your experience. If you have
a problem, just ask.

The webrings are growing, so add your site into the COM, DCOM
webring and the developer webring to unite the resources for
developers. Details at
